Keep Your Teeth Healthy This Summer!

SUMMER IS FINALLY IN full swing, and here at Dental Partners of Boston, we’re just as excited as you are about it!

As your dental team, we want to point out a few little-known facts that will help you keep healthy, beautiful teeth during a season that is surprisingly hard on your dental health.

Frequent Swimming Can Cause Unsightly Calculus

Most people don’t know that the chlorine in swimming pools can mix with your saliva to form yellow-brown spots on your front teeth. If you spend 6 hours (or more) a week in the pool, you’re at risk for swimmer’s calculus.

The good news is that swimmer’s calculus won’t harm your teeth—it just looks bad. The bad news is that it can’t be removed by simple brushing. You’ll want to schedule a deep-cleaning with our team to clean it up.

Summer Is Filled With Acidic Foods

We tend to eat a whole lot more of these foods in the heat of the summer:

  • Fruit drinks
  • Pop and sports drinks
  • Pickles
  • Fresh fruit

Now we’re not saying you should cut these foods out of your summer plans! However, be mindful of their effect on your teeth and minimize the damage by washing these items down with some nice, cold water.

You’ll Want Your Smile Camera-Ready

Summer is the season for vacations and weddings, and that means there are cameras everywhere! You may want to get your smile whitened to make sure that you’re always ready for a kodak moment, or ask us about our other services that can help.

If you have any questions about your oral health, remember that we’re always available online! Comment below, or check out our Facebook page.

Enjoy your summer!
