DO YOU EXPERIENCE DISCOMFORT when you eat something hot or cold? Here at Dental Partners of Boston, we know that sensitive teeth can be miserable.

So What Causes Teeth To Be Sensitive?

A variety of things can cause tooth sensitivity. It may be that acidic drinks or foods are eroding your enamel over time. It could also be that you brush your teeth too hard, or more than 2 times a day. That may wear down your teeth and gums, exposing the sensitive dentin in your teeth. Other things may cause temporary sensitivity, like getting braces on or off, teeth whitening, and cleaning.

What Can I Do?

Sensitive teeth can be a huge nuisance. They make eating and drinking some of your favorite things a painful experience. So what can you do to help your teeth be less sensitive?

  • Try using a softer toothbrush.
  • Brush your teeth correctly to prevent unnecessary abrasion and gum recession.
  • Limit acidic foods and drinks, and always rinse out your mouth with water after eating or drinking.
  • Use a special toothpaste for sensitivity, like Sensodyne.
