The Versatility of Dental Veneers

VeneersVeneers are thin pieces of porcelain used to cover the surface of a tooth. They enhance the aesthetic appearance of teeth and solve many dental problems, making your smile better than you ever thought possible.

What’s the point?

Veneers can solve many dental imperfections ranging from simple to severe. For patients who are self-conscious of their smile, veneers can enhance shape, size, or color of teeth. Patients can personalize the color of their veneers, so your pearly whites can be as bright as you want them. They can also be used to fix alignment, or close gaps between teeth. If teeth are worn down, broken or cracked, veneers can be used to repair the tooth and protect it from further damage. In addition to the many pros of veneers, they do not require any special care, so long as patients are brushing and flossing daily and taking care of their teeth. Veneers are permanent and can last ten years or more.

Different Kinds of Veneers

There are two main types of veneers: veneers made out of porcelain, and veneers made out of resin. Dental Partners of Boston offers primarily all-porcelain veneers, which resemble natural teeth more closely and stain less. The porcelain is gentler on your gums, so they tolerate the new veneers better. However, in order to place a porcelain veneer, more of the natural tooth has to be removed, which is why we also offer Lumineers.

Lumineers are very similar to veneers in that they are used to cover and repair imperfections in teeth. However, they are even thinner than traditional porcelain or resin veneers, and they are less invasive for healthy teeth and gums. While the preparation for veneers can take some time and various medications, preparation for Lumineers is completed in less time with minimal shots and medicine use.

It’s important to discuss your different options with us before making any final decisions regarding veneers.
