We’re Here To Help With Dental Emergencies

DURING A SEASON FILLED with family vacations, pick-up football games, and peanut brittle, dental emergencies are especially common. Here at Dental Partners of Boston, we’re available to help in case a problem crops up. However, we’d prefer to help you prevent emergencies.

A Little Bit Of Preparation Can Prevent Emergencies

Your first line of defense in preventing dental emergencies is your regularly scheduled check up. We always look over your dental work to make sure nothing is loose or damaged. We also keep an eye on your teeth and gums and catch problems that could lead to toothaches or sensitivity.

And to protect your teeth from accidents, the very best thing to do is wear a mouthguard. Remember it during basketball, football, hockey, and anything else where there’s risk of your teeth coming in contact with the floor, a ball, or other players.

Some First Aid Tips, Just In Case

Sometimes accidents happen despite our best efforts, so here are some quick tips on how to deal with an emergency.

  • If you have a toothache, rinse out your mouth with warm water. Call us if the pain persists or gets worse.
  • If your tooth gets knocked out, save the tooth in a glass of milk. Sometimes, we’re able to get the tooth back in place.
  • If your filling comes loose, put some sugarless gum where the filling used to be. This protects the empty space and keeps the pain down.

Contact Us If Your Have An Emergency

Remember that we’re here to help. Keep our contact information on hand. Even if our office is closed, we’ll forward you to either your dentist or the person on-call. Whether you need a simple fix, or a more involved procedure, we can take care of it.

If you have a dental emergency, contact us right away. Our goal is to help you maintain your dental health and comfort.

Thanks for being our valued patient!

You’re Never Too Old For Straight Teeth

STILL THINK THAT ORTHODONTICS are just for Middle Schoolers? Well, you may be surprised at the changes that are happening today.

Orthodontic treatment for adults is becoming more and more common. In fact, as many as a quarter of the orthodontic patients out there right now are adults!

The Growing Trend Of Adult Orthodontics Benefits You

Here’s the beauty of adult orthodontics: quicker, more effective, and more beautiful treatments are making adults eager to start orthodontic care. And because more adults are looking into orthodontics, new methods are evolving—methods which accomodate the priorities of adults.

For example, here at Dental Partners of Boston, we use Invisalign to help our patients achieve their ideal smile.

Invisalign is the perfect way to straighten your teeth without worrying about metal in your mouth. Instead, we use a series of custom-designed clear aligners. As your teeth move, you’ll progress from one aligner to the next, moving closer and closer to your beautiful, straight smile.

What’s The Advantage Of Orthodontic Treatment From Dental Partners of Boston?

  1. Our Invisalign Orthodontists are able to closely coordinate with our whole team: your oral surgeon, your periodontist, and your general dentist.
  2. You’ll benefit from our practice’s great technology and resources.
  3. If you’re already our patient, then we already know all about your dental history.
If you’re ready to see the difference a straight, confident smile will make in your life, call us today for a consultation. We can address all of your questions and begin developing a plan that will suit your teeth and your life.

Thanks for your trust in our practice. We’re grateful for patients like you!

Tips For A Photogenic Smile

YOU MAY NOT BE A celebrity, but between Facebook profile pictures, video chats, and your friends’ phones snapping high-resolution images every time you’re out, it’s handy to know how to be picture-perfect at the drop of a hat.

How can our team help with that? Well, think about how important your smile is. A study by Wrigley found that a smile actually makes you more attractive than makeup does.

The Healthy Smile Campaign’s Smile Study

For the study, a series of pictures were taken. Each woman was photographed four times:

  • Smiling, with makeup
  • Smiling, without makeup
  • Not smiling, with makeup
  • Not smiling, without makeup

Over 1000 test subjects throughout the UK were asked to judge the attractiveness of these pictures. The results? About 70% of people (men AND women) believe that a smile makes women more attractive than makeup does.

So, do you want great pictures? Be proud of your smile!

Our Tips For A Photogenic Smile

  1. Smile only 3/4 of the way. This keeps you from showing a lot of gums, and having too-squinty eyes.
  2. Check your posture—never slouch or crane your neck forward.
  3. Ask us what you can do to improve your smile!

We offer great options for cosmetic procedures, reconstructive work, and maintenance. From a full smile makeover using veneers or Invisalign, to small adjustments with whitening and crowns, our team can make sure that your smile is at its best. Check out our services and ask us about how we can help you.

Share your camera-ready smiles with us. Add us on Facebook and show us a picture!

Thanks for being our valued patients and friends!

Have You Ever Thought About The Benefits?

Have you ever thought about the benefits that come with getting to know your dentist better? People who have positive relationships with their dentists are more likely to schedule regular checkups, be proactive in their personal health care, and be receptive to suggestions from their dentist. All of this leads to great oral health, which in turn improves your overall health.

When you like and trust your dentist, you’re also better able to deal with dental anxiety. In fact, if you’re a reluctant patient, it’s probably the very best thing that you can do for your dental health: get to know us better!

We encourage all of our patients to get to know our team better. Ask us about your questions and concerns! Give us feedback about how we can better serve you and your family. We’re listening!

Do you have any questions about your oral health, or about the services we provide? Leave a comment below, or a post on our Facebook page. And of course, you can always call us.

Thanks for trusting us with your health. We’re grateful to have you as a patient!

Dentures? There May Be A Better Option

IF YOU’VE EVER EXPERIENCED A lost tooth, you know how much of an impact it can have. When your teeth aren’t working right, your entire quality of life is compromised. So what about when several teeth are missing?

Sure, you have the option of dentures. Today, dentures are custom-fit and designed to suit your mouth and your face. For many people, dentures may be the ideal solution. However, dentures do demand some changes in your habits and lifestyle, and you might find yourself having the following troubles:

  • You can’t eat the foods you want.
  • You find dentures uncomfortable.
  • Talking is more difficult.
  • You feel self-conscious.

That’s why we offer a permanent solution for tooth loss here at Dental Partners of Boston. People from all over New England come to us to receive full upper or lower jaw replacement. We know that it sounds drastic, but you’d be surprised at how straightforward the process is.

The Process Of Jaw Replacement

The process is just like implants: we set a few implants in your jaw which actually fuse to your existing jawbone. These implants are completely secure and permanent and once they’re in place, we can attach custom overdentures, which are designed to perfectly suit you.

See The Results In Your Life

If you’re suffering with ill-fitting and uncomfortable dentures, talk to us about the difference that a full jaw replacement can make in your life. New, permanently attached dentures will function just like your natural teeth. You’ll no longer have to sacrifice your favorite foods, or need to deal with loose and inconvenient dentures.

Our team specializes in knowing your entire mouth, and that’s why we’re able to make the process of full upper or lower jaw replacement safe and satisfying for our patients.

If you’re interested in full reconstructive work, set up a consultation today. We can answer all of your questions and determine whether you’re a good candidate.

Thanks for the trust you place in our practice. We look forward to seeing you at your next appointment!

What Can You Do To Guard Against Oral Cancer?

ABOUT 35,000 AMERICANS ARE DIAGNOSED with oral cancer every year. Here at Dental Partners of Boston, we want to make sure our patients are aware of the risk. The numbers are scary, but there’s no reason for you to be a helpless victim. Do what you can to protect against oral cancer, recognize it early, and get the care you need.

Cut The Risk Factors You CAN Control

Smoking and drinking are still the biggest links to oral cancer. Did you know that smoking and drinking together puts you more at risk than either drinking or smoking alone? Our advice is to be careful with alcohol and tobacco. Cutting these out of your life will help your oral health in more than one way. Practice healthy habits in your personal life. And if you’re at risk for HPV, make sure you get screened. HPV has been linked to certain kinds of oral cancer.

It’s important to know about other risk factors, too, even though they’re not things that you can control. Oral cancer usually occurs in people over 40, and men are twice as likely to have oral cancer as women.

Know The Signs

So if you have a few risk factors to your name, make sure you’re aware of the early signs of oral cancer. Catching it early means more successful treatment.

And even if you’re not a 50-year-old male who smokes, you need to know this information. See, 25% of people with oral cancer don’t have ANY risk factors.

Possible Signs Of Oral Cancer:

  • Sore in your mouth lasting more than 2 weeks (usually these are on the side of the tongue)
  • Swelling in the cheek, or other areas of your mouth
  • Difficulty moving your head, or jaw, or chronic problem swallowing

Don’t Miss Your Regular Appointments

One of the best ways to catch oral cancer early is to come to your regular check ups here at Dental Partners of Boston. We do an oral cancer screening with every checkup. We can detect changes in your mouth that could be a sign of cancerous or pre-cancerous conditions.

We want to do everything in our power to help our patients have long, healthy lives. If ever you have questions about oral cancer or any other related issue, please don’t hesitate to ask us.

We can’t say it enough: thank you for being our valued patients and friends!

Five Simple, Powerful Habits For Strong Teeth

YOU KNOW THE routine by now: in order to have healthy teeth, you need to brush twice a day and visit your dentist twice a year. Well, that’s still true. But if you’re ready for something new, try out these surprising habits that can make a huge difference in your oral health.

  1. Limit Starchy Snacks: Carbohydrates turn into sugars as soon as they enter your body. Sugars create acid, which attacks your teeth.
  2. Chew Or Rinse: After you eat, chew some sugar-free gum. And after you drink soda, coffee, or juice, rinse with water. This will encourage saliva flow, rebalance the pH in your mouth, and get rid of extra food particles or staining material.
  3. Get Your Fluoride: It strengthens your teeth and prevents cavities, so grab some fluoridated toothpaste and get into the habit of using it.
  4. Floss: It’s the mantra of dentists everywhere. Are you listening to it? Flossing will save your gums, and healthy gums will save your teeth. Floss until you love it.
  5. Eat Calcium And Vitamin C: Calcium strengthens your teeth, and Vitamin C will help you have healthier gums. Eat plenty of citrus, dairy, and leafy greens.

Here at Dental Partners of Boston, we want to be your partners in dental care for a lifetime. And we know that exercising these habits will help your lifetime be longer and healthier. So try them out! Let us know how it goes for you.

If ever you have any questions for our team regarding preventative care, let us know. We love talking with our patients about their health and appearance.

Thank you for choosing us as your dental health team.

Our One-Visit-Crown Technology Saves You Time

IF YOU’VE EVER HAD A DENTAL crown put in somewhere besides our office, you might think of it as a major chore. First, you have to get a tooth impression. Then, a temporary crown is placed. Weeks later, you have to come back into the office, get the temporary crown removed, and a new permanent one (made in a lab) placed.

But guess what? At Dental Partners of Boston, we can seriously reduce the time and pain. We have this awesome machine called the CEREC: Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Using CEREC, your crown can be planned, created, and placed all in one visit.

About Crowns:

Dental crowns protect teeth that are weak or cracked and in danger of breaking by forming a protective layer around the tooth. Dental crowns are also used in conjunction with dental implants and dental bridges to support other teeth in your mouth.

Crowns provide a natural-looking smile despite damage or reconstructive work.

About CEREC:

So, how is the process of getting a crown placed different with CEREC? Here’s how it works: an infrared camera takes 3-D images of your damaged tooth and sends them directly to our CEREC machine. Your crown is then milled inside the machine right here in our office, providing us with the ability TO COMPLETE YOUR PROCEDURE THE SAME DAY! No annoying impression trays, no waiting for a lab somewhere else, and no uncomfortable temporary crown.

Our team is always looking for ways to make your visit more comfortable and convenient. With new technology and methods, we are excited to be able to make temporary crowns a thing of the past!

To find out how our dental crown procedure can benefit you, contact us. We’d love to talk to you.

Thank you for being our valued patients. We appreciate you!

Dental Anxiety? Sedation Dentistry May Be The Solution

IT’S NO SECRET TO US HERE at Dental Partners of Boston that there are a lot of people out there who just don’t want to see us. Dental anxiety is so common that it has its own name: odontophobia. Now despite the awful cliches, we dentists are not all bad. We treat our patients with the utmost care and consideration.

So what’s really getting to people? Let’s do some troubleshooting:

The Most Cited Cause Of Dental Anxiety

Pain is the most-cited cause of dental anxiety. Your mouth is a sensitive place. And one bad experience can make you avoid dentists for life. The good news is that new technology and techniques have made painful dental visits a thing of the past. Our team does whatever we can to make you comfortable and pain-free.

Invasiveness?

Yeah, it’s awkward having someone’s hands in your mouth. You may feel even more uncomfortable just because you’re vulnerable and in a place with unfamiliar sights and sounds. But we promise to always treat you with courtesy and respect. Get to know us better, and our practice will be a more welcome sight to you.

The Rumors

Let’s be honest, a horror story is more fun to hear than a story about a pleasant dental visit. Bad stories spread and good ones don’t. If you’re wary of dentists because of things you’ve heard, talk to us about it. We can give you the straight story about what to expect from a procedure.

If You’re Struggling With Dental Anxiety…

Now, if you’ve tried all the tips in the book and you’re still struggling with dental anxiety, talk to us about sedation dentistry. With a simple oral sedative before your appointment, you can be more relaxed, and we can take care of your dental work more efficiently.

Do you have questions about sedation dentistry? About any other aspect of your treatment? Feel free to contact us. We love talking with patients about their concerns.

We know that dental anxiety is hard to overcome, and we appreciate your trust!
