Not All Oral Habits Are Good!

HERE AT DENTAL PARTNERS OF BOSTON we are constantly urging our patients to exercise good oral care. Unfortunately, what even the most consistent brushers and flossers may not realize, is that there is a right and a wrong way of taking care of your teeth! So, here are some tips from our doctors that we thought you’d find helpful!

  • Brush for a full two minutes, twice a day. Brushing for under two minutes means you aren’t effectively brushing your teeth, and some plaque may get left behind!
  • Watch yourself in the mirror and focus on brushing every section of your mouth. Don’t forget the gum line! That’s where plaque and tartar love to settle.
  • Focus on technique. Your enamel consists of tons of tiny delicate glass-like rods that are easily damaged. In order to avoid damaging it, don’t brush side-to-side! Hold your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle, and brush in circular motions!
  • Don’t brush too hard. Like we said, your enamel is easy to damage. Brushing too hard can result in sensitive teeth, gum recession, cracks, and abfraction lesions.
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush, and replace it every 3 months to minimize germs. This is another way to ensure you aren’t hurting your teeth each time you brush them.
  • Choose the right toothpaste. If your teeth are sensitive, stay away from baking-soda toothpastes, as they are a little harder on your smile. Your best bet is probably sticking with something ADA-approved and gentle on your mouth.
  • FLOSS! We can’t stress the importance of flossing enough. Simply brushing your teeth isn’t going to get out all the plaque. Though it’s great at removing bacteria from the surfaces of your teeth, toothbrushes just can’t reach those tight spaces in between your teeth. If you want to avoid cavities and decay—floss your teeth daily.
  • Rinse with mouthwash. This will ensure you’ve really killed all the bacteria in your mouth after brushing and flossing

Well, there you have it! Some helpful tips on the best way to take care of your smile. Your oral health  is our number one priority.

All About Dentures

TOOTH LOSS IS SOMETHING WE DO OUR UTMOST TO PREVENT here at Dental Partners of Boston. However, sometimes it just simply can’t be avoided. Fortunately, thanks to modern-day technologies, walking around with gaps in your smile is no longer something you’ll have to live with. For cases with only one or two missing teeth, dental implants may be the best plan of action. For more serious cases, like those of you with 3 or more missing teeth, or hardly any teeth left at all, we recommend dentures.

Here at Dental Partners of Boston, we offer both complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when very little of your original teeth remain. One of our highly specialized dentists will first remove any of your remaining teeth so that your dentures can be fitted. Next, a mold of your gums will be created and sent it off to a dental lab that will create your customized set of dentures. Oh, and don’t worry—we will fit you with a temporary set until your permanent dentures are finished!

Partial dentures are recommended for patients with only a few missing teeth. Not only do partial dentures fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, they prevent other teeth from changing position. Here at Dental Partners of Boston, we are also pleased to offer implant-supported dentures.

If you are missing teeth, or have a loved one or friend that is, request an appointment with one of our dental specialists today. We will work with you to create a individualized plan that best fits your specific needs. There’s no need to live with those gaps any longer! It’s time to fill in the holes and give you a smile you’re proud of.

Are You Pregnant? Prioritize Your Oral Health

THOUGH IT MAY SEEM ODD, hormonal changes in women’s bodies during pregnancy actually increase their risk of dental health problems. Not only can this affect the mother’s overall health, it can affect the baby’s birth as well.  Multiple studies have found links between gum disease and complications during pregnancy…most of which end up resulting in premature births. That is why it’s even more important for women to focus on having sound oral health when they are expecting.

Because gum disease is a greater threat for pregnant women, here are some ways to help prevent it:

  • Eat healthy!!
  • Brush your teeth twice a day.
  • Floss once daily.
  • Rinse with an alcohol-free mouthwash daily.
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush.
  • Visit our practice regularly during your pregnancy.

Signs of gum disease include swollen/red gums, bleeding (especially when brushing), and soreness in the gums, and you should make an appointment with one of our doctors asap if symptoms develop. Fortunately, here at Dental Partners of Boston, thanks to the many advanced treatments our periodontists offer, we can help you manage and reverse your gum disease. Soft tissue grafts can help decrease sensitivity, cover up exposed roots, and replace missing tissue.

So, take care of your mouth! And be extra careful if you’re pregnant. We look forward to serving you.

Root Canal Treatment Can Bring Pain Relief

THERE IS A HUGE MISCONCEPTION ABOUT ROOT CANAL TREATMENT—everyone is scared it is going to be painful! What most people don’t realize is that the actual infection is what hurts, and the endodontic treatment we use to heal it is no more painful than filling a cavity!

There’s nothing to be afraid of! Root canals are actually one of the most common dental procedures: nearly 16 million are performed in the United States alone each year! Here at Dental Partners of Boston, we have great experience with endodontic treatment. After an initial comprehensive exam, we will determine the best treatment plan for your particular case. Then,  along with our advanced technologies and highly effective anesthetics, our multi-specialty team will perform the procedure painlessly and efficiently—alleviating your discomfort and leaving your mouth a much happier place!

Interested In Straightening Your Teeth Without All The Metal?

THE DESIRE TO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL, STRAIGHT SMILE is something that most of us can relate to. However, many people, adults in particular, find themselves uncomfortable with the idea of metal braces. Fortunately—you are in luck. We offer a variety of cosmetic and orthodontic solutions that can help straighten your teeth without the hassle of actual braces. One of the most popular of these solutions is Invisalign “invisible braces,” and Dental Partners of Boston happens to be a Premier Preferred provider.

We promise the word “invisible” isn’t too good to be true. Invisalign braces straighten your teeth through a series of clear, custom-molded, removable aligners. This means no metal wires or bands to irritate your mouth, and most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them!!

Here at Dental Partners of Boston, your treatment will start with a computer-generated image of how what your teeth will look like during each stage of treatment. We will then create custom aligners that will gradually shift your teeth into place from the back of your mouth to the front without any tightening your adjustments. By simply changing your aligners approximately every 2 weeks, your teeth will straighten and leave you with a smile to be proud of.

If you think invisalign may be the solution you’ve been searching for, request an appointment with one of our experienced  Invisalign orthodontists today. A straighter, more beautiful smile awaits you.
