More Teenagers Choose Aligners To Straighten Teeth

Dental Partners of Boston (DPB) was recently featured on CBS Boston. The story shares that there is a growing trend among teenagers who are choosing to use teeth aligners over traditional braces. The most popular aligner to help straighten teeth is Invisalign®.

Braces vs. Invisible Aligners

Braces are the traditional method of straightening teeth and are shown to be a procedure that many patients avoid. Both teenagers and adults alike avoid braces because of the fear of embarrassment or teasing over their looks. This is why people may have avoided going to an orthodontist to fix their crooked teeth in the first place. But with this recent innovation in dental aligner technology, that fear is gone!

Invisalign®

Invisalign® was first developed for adults as an alternative to braces to allow them to straighten their teeth unbeknownst to their colleagues or acquaintances. As invisible aligners have become popular and have proven effective, teenagers have expressed interest in Invisalign® as well. Orthodontists, like Dr. Frydman, now work not only with adults but also with teenagers. Even children as young as 7 years old straighten their teeth with this amazing technology. It is practically invisible, more hygienic, and less uncomfortable.

How Long Does Invisalign® Treatment Take?

At DPB, the cost of Invisalign® aligners is the same as traditional braces and they give you the same results in a shorter amount of time for certain patients! Some treatments can be less than a year depending on the amount of adjustment your teeth need. Dr. Frydman will determine during your initial consultation the exact time frame for your treatment. It is important that you work with Dr. Frydman throughout the entire process to ensure that your teeth straighten properly.

Treatment begins with DPB taking a 3D scan of your mouth to create your custom aligners. You can see on a big screen a simulation of your teeth, but straight! Aligners then go into production, and about 3 to 4 weeks later they will arrive at our office. Scheduled visits are every 4-10 weeks, depending on your progress. You will take home the number of aligners needed for that period of time. Being able to eat what you want, brush your teeth, and floss are other benefits of invisible aligner treatment as the aligners are easily removable. No more poking wires is always a plus!
