Some Resolutions For Healthier Teeth In 2013!

THE BEAUTY OF A NEW YEAR is that we all get a fresh start. That’s why our team is sharing a quick list of some habits which you may not know are hurting your teeth.

1. Stop chewing on ice, pens, and fingernails!

These habits may seem innocuous, but they can cause major problems down the road. Chewing on hard objects can crack your teeth, cause misalignment, and inflame your gums. Try carrying some sugarless gum and a nail file with you and see if that helps.

2. Don’t drink so much soda pop!

A 2010 study found that the average American drinks about 45 gallons of carbonated soft drinks in a year. That’s almost twice the amount of bottled water that we drink.

A can of coke is equivalent to 10 teaspoons of sugar. And for your teeth, it’s not just the sugar you need to be concerned about. Even diet soda is loaded with acid, which wears down your tooth enamel and makes it more vulnerable to cracking and decay. So this year, set a goal and cut back.

3. Limit your midnight snacking.

Snacks can cause problems for your teeth because not as much saliva is produced as during a full meal. This means that your mouth doesn’t have the chance to remineralize, clean, and rebalance.

Snacks are especially a problem when you eat them late at night, or after you’ve brushed your teeth for the night. When you sleep, you don’t produce as much saliva. Your mouth is left unprotected and vulnerable to that chocolate cake that you sampled after you got ready for bed.

So cut back on snacking, and make sure you ALWAYS brush your teeth between eating and sleeping.
