CERC Single Visit Dental Crowns

Whether you have been living with periodontal disease and you need to have a partial bridge designed or you need a crown because of a recent root canal or injury, you might not be looking forward to waiting for the lab to complete your restorations. Although many temporary crowns and bridges can look realistic, nothing beats the look of a custom-formed crown. To make your dental treatment as streamlined and convenient as possible, the Dental Partners of Boston are proud to offer their own in-house laboratory, complete with CEREC® technology.

The Dental Partners of Boston offer CEREC® Technology

CEREC® is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. By taking special 3D scans of your teeth, our dental professionals can then use CEREC® CAD/CAM software to create a virtual restoration for your smile. CEREC® systems are capable of creating inlays, onlays, bridges, and custom porcelain crowns on-site in much less time than it would take to send impressions to a lab and await their return. After the impressions are taken, a proprietary CEREC® milling machine designs the restoration according to the careful measurements and appearance of your teeth, helping dentists to create beautiful restorations.

Benefits of CEREC®

The CEREC® system offers multiple advantages for patients and dentists alike. Here are just a few of the reasons our patients love CEREC®.

Fewer Appointments

Because CEREC® crowns are made on-site while you wait, you will not need to have a temporary crown applied to your tooth. In addition to putting less strain on your tooth structure, this also means you won’t have to schedule multiple appointments.

Faster Treatment Times

Receiving a temporary crown and then going back in to receive your permanent crown can take a lot of time. However, CEREC® is so fast that you can receive your dental treatment and your permanent crown in the same appointment—in under two hours.

High-Quality Fabrications

CEREC® restorations have been shown to be just as strong as traditional crowns designed in an outside laboratory, so you won’t have to worry about your restoration breaking.

Improved Troubleshooting

With CEREC®, dentists have the opportunity to focus on the form and function of the tooth in a single appointment, improving troubleshooting. Dentists can carefully match the crown to the color of the tooth and make small adjustments along the way, improving the function and aesthetics of the restoration.

What To Expect

After images of your teeth are taken with the CEREC® 3-D camera system, the software creates virtual impressions of your teeth. The software also uses biogeneric comparisons to calculate the shape and size of your surrounding teeth, making restorations that fit the space precisely. Next, the CAD software used to tweak the virtual restoration, and then the image is sent to the in-house milling machine to create your crown, inlay, onlay, or bridge. When the system is finished creating the restoration, the tooth is carefully prepared and then the restoration is cemented in place.
